The Bears fought hard for their first race of the season at the annual Canterbury Invitational where over 30 schools gathered to scope out the season’s competition. Led by captains Nate MacKenzie ’14 and Dylan O’Connor ’14, the Bears ran extremely well. Representing Berkshire this weekend were Nick Asaro ’14, Derrick Burt ’16, James Donavan ’15, Peter Giordano ’15, Daniel Kim ’15, Dylan O’Connor ’14, and Jack Scarafoni ’17. In addition, we were proud to have Kevin Kim ’15, and John Leasure ’15 join the team as our very important and speedy alternates.
Running nearly one minute and thirty seconds faster than last week’s 3.1 mile time trial, Peter Giordano was the first Bear to reach the finish line. Close behind him were the other six Berkshire runners. In order, these included Dylan O’Connor, Derrick Burt, Jack Scarafoni, Daniel Kim, James Donovan, and Nick Asaro who all ran more than a minute faster than their previous 5K time. Each of these seven runners had a personal record for the season.
Meanwhile, with the help of Coach Romano, we staged a race against ourselves back on Berkshire’s home course. The day produced several impressive personal records including Rafael Arredondo ’17, Matt Cortes ’17, Victor Leung ’17, Rad Savage ‘15, Ryan Zang ‘17, and Ray Li ’16 who ran between one and three minutes faster than their previous 5K time. First across the Berkshire Finish Line was Freshman Tyler Morse!
Whether the team was at home or at Canterbury, it was a successful day full of several individual successes which, in a sense, led to a team victory. WAY TO GO BEARS!!!!!
