Prospective Runner Inquiry Form
Boys Cross Country has been one of the most successful athletic programs at Berkshire. Our dual meet record since the sport started in 1966 is 331 wins, 102 loses and 2 ties. We have finished fifth or better in twenty-nine of the thirty-four years we have been in the New England Championships, and we have won that meet six times. Our record for the last 12 years is 122-20-1 with a first place finish in the New England’s in 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, second in 1999, 2000, and third in 2001.
The Boys Cross Country team takes advantage of Berkshire’s beautiful setting with a new course that has striking views of the campus. The course is challenging, but idyllic in that it truly incorporates a variety of different terrains. Additionally, favorite running loops on country roads in the surrounding rolling hills of southwestern Massachusetts provide even more territory than Berkshire’s own 550 acres. With the completion of this year’s campus construction, the original course will re-open as Berkshire’s second home course in the fall of 2008. Berkshire runners compete in the annual Canterbury Invitational, a number of Division I and II dual, tri, and quad meets, and the New England Prep School Championship - which Berkshire has proudly hosted a number of times.
Though we have established a tradition of excellence, runners of every talent level are encouraged to come out for Cross Country at Berkshire. Creating a team that appreciates each other and the sport of running is the ultimate goal every season. This year’s squad, though young, is showing qualities of toughness, persistence, and team spirit, all of which bode well for the coming season.
