The Bears headed down to New Milford, CT to face the Canterbury Saints on Saturday. It was a chilly fall day ideal for a soccer match. The Bears took the field with focus and determination. It was clear from the first whistle that the Bears were eager to win and win well. As the first half progressed, so did the Bears’ level of play. There were numerous combinations in the middle made by holding midfielder, Melody Barros ‘15 along with defensive wingers, Allie Brazo ‘14 and Molly Crabtree ‘15. About halfway through the first half a drop pass was played to defensive player, Hannah Cooke ‘14. Without hesitation, Cooke wound up for the shot well outside the eighteen yard box. Unable to to get anything on it, the Saints found themselves down one for the remainder of the half.
The start of the second half proved that the Saints were not about to go down without a fight. They came out and challenged the Bears who continued to dominate the ball through the midfield. It was only after one too many close calls in the Bears’ defensive zone that Berkshire was able to capitalize on some terrific movement up the field. Attacking midfielder, Ana Alvarenga ‘15, sent a ball over the Saints’ defense for forward, Keunna Dill ‘14 to dribble onto. Dill was able to maintain control of the ball and send a low, near post shot to net the second, and final goal of the game.
The Bears look forward to taking on Miss Porter’s on Wednesday!
