Event Recap:The Bears traveled to Watertown on Saturday afternoon to take on local Class A rival Taft. The game saw both teams start well and share chances in the opposition's end but both sides back lines held up well and neither team was able to generate a serious attack. It was the Rhinos who would draw first blood with a long cross from the midfield that sprung their wing on the right flank. While the Bears made a great effort to regain their shape, the Taft player was in alone and found the back of the net at the twelve minute mark.
But the Bears were un-phased and responded quickly with a great ball from Ana Alaverenga in the mid-field to spring striker Keunna Dill. Keunna found herself in alone and leveled the score at 1-1 which is how the half ended.
The second half started in similar fashion to the first but playing with the wind at the backs the Bears were able to dictate pace a bit better. In the forty third minute freshman Eliza Stichter won a ball in the middle field and showed great composure as she slid a through ball past Taft's back line to spring Keunna again. She took advantage of the opportunity and beat the Taft goalie for the eventual game winner.
The clinching goal came in the 74th minute when senior captain Rhi Vanderbeek beat her mark with a deft touch in the mid-field and hit a ball over the top to send Keunna once again. She made no mistake and slid it past a sprawled Taft keeper to clinch the game for the team and the hat-trick for herself.
Our defensive line once again played great and sophomores Lucy Hollister and Elizabeth Hosage also managed to play their best minutes in a Berkshire jersey. Additionally, Eliza Farley made her first career start and totaled seventy minutes in an excellent effort at wingback. The Bears are back in action at home on Wednesday against Ethel Walker.
