Soccer - Boys Varsity vs. Salisbury School

Event Type: Regular

Date: November 10, 2012

Score:6 - 0

Event Recap:

Berkshire played the final regular season game on the road at Salisbury School.  Berkshire controlled much of the play during the first half, but Salisbury did well to keep the visitors off the scoreboard.  A few good saves from Salisbury's keeper and some good collective defense made it tough for the Bears.  In the 19th minute, the Bears opened the scoring with a free kick from Zeiko Lewis '13 that went into the lower right corner. Ten minutes later Justin Donawa '15 freed himself on the right and delivered a beautiful cross to Tanner Tomasi '14 who hammered in the second goal.  In the final minute of the half, Berkshire earned a penalty when a Salisbury defender was called for a hand ball off cross.  Jack Harrison '15 stepped to the penalty spot and hit a beauty into the back of the net. Up 3-0 at halftime, the Bears knew they would have to fend off a surge by the home side at the start of the second half.

Salisbury came out strong and played with more offensive presence. The Bears back line of Noah Sinkoff '13, Brandon Allen '13, Nate Summers '14, and Justin Donawa '15 were up for the challenge, and midfielders Tanner Tomasi '13, Luis Echeverria '13, and Haden Cosman '13 held up to the increased pressure. Five minutes into the second half, Anthony Amolo '13 hit an absolute rocket from about 35 yards out, and it looked as though it would clear the crossbar, but the shot dipped over the keepers hands and below the crossbar for the fourth goal of the match. Lewis '13 and Amolo '13 each scored again in the next ten minutes.  Up 6-0, the Bears looked to close the match with a solid defensive effort.  All members of the team were able to get quality minutes and contribute to a great team effort.  Salisbury is a very good team and the score did not reflect the quality of play from the home side.  Berkshire's keeper Sam Clougher '13 made several good stops to keep the clean slate.

Up next, #1 Berkshire will host #8 Choate in the first round of the New England Class A Tournament.  The match will be played at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, November 14th at Berkshire School. Come out and support the Bears.
