Berkshire and South Kent met at the FSA Soccer Complex in Farmington, CT for an exciting match under the lights. The Bears knew they would need their best to claim an important win against a very strong and talented South Kent side. In the opening minutes, the play jumped back and forth between the two teams and the tempo was fast. However, Berkshire began to find greater periods of control in the match and began to assert itself on the opponent with some good forward sequences. Zeiko Lewis '13 scored a big goal off a pass from Tony Amolo '13 to give the Bears the 1-0 lead, and later in the half Noah Sinkoff '13 scored on a rebound in front of the net. The Bears backs of Brandon Allen '13, Nate Summers '14, Justin Donawa '15, and Noah Sinkoff '13 were organized and played solid defense throughout the first half. In net for the Bears, Sam Clougher '13 didn't see too much action, but he did well managing his box. Berkshire's midfield was dominant, and Haden Cosman '13, Luis Echeverria '13, and Tanner Tomasi '14 were tough and defended well while also taking care of the ball on offense. At halftime, the Bears were up 2-0.
In the second half, the Bears knew that South Kent would apply more pressure to try and get back in the match, but Berkshire was up for the challenge. Despite the increased pressure, Berkshire played its game and continued to enjoy lots of possession while launching numerous forays toward South Kent's goal. Zeiko Lewis '13, Jack Harrison '15, and Tony Amolo '13 proved to be dangerous all night long. Tanner Tomasi '14 netted the next goal for Berkshire when he hammered in cross from Zeiko Lewis '13. Up 3-0, the Bears continued to stay focused and weathered the storm as South Kent pressed forward time and time again. Sam Clougher '13 made a couple very good stops to deny South Kent any chance of getting back into the match. The final goal of the match came when Jack Harrison '15 found Zeiko Lewis '13 open again, and Lewis finished to give the Bears a solid 4-0 lead. The score remained the same for the rest of the second half.
Matt Renzi '13, Matty Wieczorek '14, Andres Gimenez '13, and Jackson Borwick '13 all provided valuable minutes off the bench. It was a great collective effort for the Bears. South Kent is a talented team and Berkshire had to play its best soccer today to claim this important win. With the victory, Berkshire improves to 14-0-1. Up next, Berkshire plays at home against Westminster at 3:00 PM.
