Event Recap:Berkshire played at home today against Canterbury on Parents' Weekend, and it proved to be a good afternoon for the Bears. Berkshire jumped out to an early lead in the 3rd minute when Justin Donawa '15 crossed a ball into the box and Tony Amolo '13 finished. Just eight minutes later, Donawa '15 connected with Amolo '13 again for the second goal of the match. Moments later, Zeiko Lewis '13 found Jack Harrison '15 in the box for another goal. Just before halftime, Berkshire scored again with a nice goal from Andres Gimenez-Valdes '13 off a cross from Matt Renzi '13 . The Bears controlled possession throughout the first half and generated quite a few scoring chances. Berkshire's back line of Justin Donawa '15, Brandon Allen '13, Matt Renzi '13, and Jackson Borwick '13 did well to stop Canterbury's attacks and to make the necessary forward passes. Midfielders Tanner Tomasi '14, Matty Wiecezorek '14, and Luis Echeverria '13 did well to distribute the ball side to side and dictate the tempo of the match.
In the second half, Berkshire was able to get its full team out on the field and try some players in new positions. Canterbury's increased pressure put Berkshire's back line and keeper Bryan Gerstenfeld '14 under some pressure, but the Bears were able to absorb the pressure and establish control of the match again. With a new group of players on the field, Berkshire and Canterbury battled back and forth with moments of solid play. In the 59th minute, Berkshire was awarded a penalty and Milton Martinez '15 capitalized on the attempt, giving the Bears a 5-0 lead. Late in the game Andres Gimenez-Valdes '13 score on another penalty kick, and his goal proved to be the last of the afternoon. The Bears finished with a strong 6-0 win on Parents' Weekend, and now the team stands at 11-0-1.
Up next, Berkshire plays at home on Wednesday, 10/24 against Brunswick School at 4:00 PM.
