Event Recap:

Berkshire traveled to Suffield today, and played in front of an energized crowd of supporters on their Parents' Weekend.  From the start the Bears could tell it was going to be a tough match, but the Bears were fortunate to capitalize on an early chance when Zeiko Lewis '13 picked out Tony Amolo '13 who got on the end of a ball played behind Suffield's back line. Amolo '13 received the ball in stride and then proceeded to break to goal and slot the ball past the oncoming keeper and into the net, giving the Bears a 1-0 lead in the 2nd minute of the match.  However, the score would remain the same though the first half with both teams by passing the midfield and playing rather direct soccer.  The field conditions were very tough, and it made a possession game difficult.  Berkshire fell into the trap of trying to match Suffield's direct style of play with some of its own, and as a result the first half went end to end a lot with some nervous moments for both teams.  Both teams back lines and keepers held strong under a constant aerial assault.

In the second half, the Bears settled down and started to posses the ball much better.  They gained confidence throughout the course of the second half, and as a result controlled much of the play and had the better chances.  However, Suffield played tough defense and did will to force tough shots from Berkshire.  Berkshire's midfield did a better job spreading the ball around and finding the sides of the field.  This opened up the middle and allowed for some quality chances.  Though the second goal did not come easily, it did come in the 80th minute when Zeiko Lewis '13 broke to goal and was taken down by Suffield's center back.  In the ensuing penalty, Lewis '13 made sure of it and drilled the ball into the side netting.  It proved to be the final goal of the match. The Bears did well to earn a gritty road victory in front of enthusiastic crowd at Suffield's Parents' Weekend.  It certainly was not the prettiest of outings for the Bears, but the team kept it together and earned a solid road win.  Suffield showed a lot of character and played hard from start to finish.

Up next the Bears play away at Kingswood-Oxford on Wednesday, and then the team will settle into a nice five game homestand.
