The Bears played at home today against Trinity Pawling, and it proved to be a good afternoon for the Bears. From the start, Berkshire asserted themselves on the visitors and generated some early scoring chances in the first two minutes, but were unable to find the net. However, the Bears kept pressing forward as a group, showing increased patience in the build up, and it did not take long for their efforts to pay off. In the 12th minute, Justin Donawa '15 broke free on the wing and delivered a beautiful pass to Zeiko Lewis '13 who skillfully redirected the cross into the back of the net. Six minutes later, Donawa '15 set up the second goal on a similar play. This time it was Jack Harrison '15 who was on the receiving end. A neat and skillful finish by Harrison '15 gave the Bears an early 2-0 lead. As the half progressed, the Bears played solid defense and limited the visitors chances. Brandon Allen '13 and Nate Summers '15 controlled the back line, and Luis Echeverria '13, Haden Cosman '13, Matty Wieczorek '14, and Tanner Tomasi '14 took turns in the middle of the field, providing strong defensive work and creative attacking play. With five minutes left in the half, Jack Harrison '15 slipped behind his mark and escaped down the sideline and angled in toward the goal. His dangerous crossed looked like it would find the feet of Milton Martinez '15 who timed his run well, but one of the back for Trinity Pawling slide into to stop the scoring chance and ended up inadvertently knocking the ball into the net. At the break, the Bears were up 3-0.
In the second half, the Bears were able to get all members of the team out on the field, and the reserves were able to lift the play and impact the game in a meaningful way, which was great to see. The most notable performance came from Another Kushaina '15 who scored two great second half goals both with good runs off the wing. On his first it was Zeiko Lewis '13 who set him up and then five minutes later it was Tanner Tomasi '14. There were great contributions from all team members today. Matty Wieczorek '14 played significant minutes in the central midfield, and his distribution was excellent. Tony Amolo '13 was creative throughout the day and threatened Trinity Pawling's back line with creative runs and penetrating passes. He was unlucky not to score twice. Ian Rasmussen '14 proved to be dangerous in the attack during the second half, and he nearly scored twice. In net for the Bears, Sam Clougher '13 did not see too many shots, but he made a few great stops on Trinity Pawling's best scoring attempts. Lots of great moments from the whole squad today - a real team effort. Up next, the Bears have an important match with Taft on Wednesday, October 10th at 3:00 PM.
