Event Type: Regular

Date: October 3, 2012

Score:5 - 1

Event Recap:

Today the Bears were on the road at Millbrook School, and on paper it looked to have the makings for an exciting match.  Last year the Bears was able to pull out a 3-2 victory against Millbrook in an emotionally charged match at Berkshire.  This year both teams entered the match with confidence. Millbrook coming off a Class C New England Championship and a great start to the new season, and Berkshire carrying 5-0-1 record into the match. The Bears were focused and looked to start quickly, and that is just what they did.  In the 5th minute, Zeiko Lewis '13 eluded his defender and then struck a great shot across the face of the goal, off the far post, and into the net. Less than two minutes later, Lewis '13 scored again. This time he and Tony Amolo '13 worked a wonderful passing sequence back and forth until Lewis '13 found himself with a bit of daylight just outside the six. Lewis '13 slotted the ball into the side netting, giving the Bears an early 2-0 lead.  One minute after that, Berkshire found another great goal scoring moment when Jack Harrison '15 slipped between two defenders and looked to be clear to goal, but one of the pursuing defenders made a desperate lunging tackle that took Harrison '15 down for  PK.  Harrison '15 stepped confidently to the spot and hammered in the third goal. The early lead held at 3-0 into the halftime break.

With some new Bears on the field to start the second half, the team looked to maintain control of the game and build on the early lead.  Coming off a rather lackluster appearance in the previous game, Berkshire's reserves looked to impact the game in a positive way, and that is just what happened.  Louis Scaglione '13 won a ball at right back and then pushed the ball into space before delivering a perfect ball onto the foot of Milton Martinez '15 who received, turned smoothly into space and then proceeded to run past his defender and fended off the second defender before driving a ball into the far-side side netting.  It was a terrific goal that increased Berkshire's lead to 4-1.  With 15 minutes left in the game, Millbrook's dangerous striking pair - Bawa and Opuku - combined for a goal.  With just three minutes left in the match, Jackson Borwick '13 made a superb run off the left wing to meet a perfect cross from Jack Harrison '15. Borwick '13 headed the ball down into the back of the net and gave Berkshire a 5-1 lead.

Millbrook played hard and showed a lot determination from start to finish.  Berkshire needed to be at its best to contain Millbrook's explosive pair and to generate as many fine scoring chances as they did over the course of the match.  Haden Cosman '13 played very well in the middle of the field, distributing well throughout the match and playing tough defense as well. It was a great team performance against a very talented side from Millbrook.

Up next, Berkshire plays at home on Saturday against Trinity Pawling.  The match starts at 3:30 PM.
