Beyond the Mountain

Beyond the Mountain furthers the mission of the RKMP by leading domestic and international wilderness trips that introduce students to environments outside of our local landscape here in the northeastern United States.

For example, a trip to Shipasbamba, Peru emerges students into a culture that uses their resources very differently than ours. Trips to the Florida Everglades or the Moab Desert offer students new ecosystems to explore. A trip to climb Chimborazo in Ecuador or Kilimanjaro in Tanzania challenges students' strength and endurance.

Generally, a student need not have any wilderness experience to go on a trip, and most of the needed equipment is provided by the RKMP. The trips vary according to the interests of the student body. Ultimately, this program gives students memorable experiences by exposing them to uncertain outcomes and acceptable risks through the exploration of exciting, yet unfamiliar cultures and environments.
