Independent Study Projects: 2013-14

William Pang ’15 is studying the common ground (or lack thereof) between Religion and Atheism.  Mentor:  Gwynneth Connell. 

Quintin Pollart ’14, working with Mike Dalton, is researching traditional Scottish highland music, Piobraeched and Ceòl Beag.  He is concurrently studying his family’s Irish roots, since Quintin’s bagpipes originally belonged to his great-grandfather, Harry Galvin, who was a piper in the Irish Guard. 

Hyunsuk Jimmy Chung ’14, who studied advanced digital music last year with Clive Davis, is spending this year in other kinds of Digital Music Composition and add Sound Design to his project. 

Keon Shik Kevin Kim ’15 is continuing his work in digital music with a semester independent study in Advanced Electronic Music Production, with Clive Davis as his mentor.  

Lucy Hollister ’15, with Sylvia Gappa, has continued where her last year’s Pro Vita course (Learning Through Play) left off and is studying Child Development during first semester. 

Catherine Xu ’14 is exploring the neuroscience and psychology of sleep, in her project on Sleep Cycles and Disorders.  She has several adults, headed by Linda Bellizzi, as her mentors. 

T.J. Adams ’14 is working with Brian Lewton to learn about how to evaluate sports injuries in his project on Athletic Training. 

Matthis Wieczorek ’14 is examining various topics related to life in China as well as developing his language skills further, as he studies with Lu Xu in Advanced Chinese Language and Culture.

Amelia Patsalos-Fox ’14, mentored by Andrew D’Ambrosio, is studying the impact of various photographers and iconic Photographs on U.S. society.  

Sam Lewis, who has been creating graffiti-like large spraypaint-on-plywood works in his garage loft at home for several years, is studying the History of Graffiti, its evolution over the years, as well as producing his own paintings in various graffiti styles.  His mentor is Nadine Lloyd. 

Roy Faigenbaum was intrigued with his Pro Vita course on education in the U.S. (It’s a Bird…It’s a Plane…It’s a Teacher!) and is studying Education Reform in the U.S. under the guidance of Dana Anselmi. 

Catherine Qi is exploring Topics in Advanced Mathematics (real analysis, linear algebra, differential geometry, etc.) with Kurt Schleunes.
