Dear Berkshire Community,
On behalf of the Head of School Search Committee, I am pleased to provide you with a brief update on the Head of School search. I also want to formally thank all of you for participating in the survey we sent out in August. Your insight into the opportunities ahead for Berkshire, along with your feedback on the leadership qualities and experience you would like to see in our next Head of School, are invaluable to the Search Committee in this process.
Working with our search consultants, the Committee originally reviewed over 200 candidates who expressed an interest in applying for this position. After narrowing this wide pool down to 13 great candidates, the Committee worked closely to present a slate of four exceptional candidates. Each of these candidates met several times with the Committee before coming to Berkshire for a day-long visit with key faculty, staff, students and administrators. Each candidate ended their visit with a formal address to the entire faculty and staff with an open question and answer session. These meetings took place last week.
We are pleased to announce that we have narrowed our search down to two final candidates: Pieter Mulder, Interim Head of Berkshire School and Sharon Howell, Senior Resident Dean of Adams House at Harvard University. These two candidates will meet with the Committee next week for a final round of conversations. The Committee will then begin its final deliberations to name Berkshire School’s next Head of School.
Berkshire School is exceptionally well positioned among secondary schools nationally and has attracted a remarkable list of candidates to this process. We look forward to a successful completion in this search over the next several weeks and announcing Berkshire’s next Head of School.
