Came to Berkshire: 2000
What excites you the most about teaching at Berkshire? I love working with students who are interested in learning about music. I enjoy being able to work with both instrumentalists and singers alike. I also think that having media classes (Digital Music) as well as a recording studio really prepares our students for a next generation of music making.
How do you see yourself preparing the students for school and for life? I don’t really expect every student enrolled in a music class at Berkshire School to pursue a career in music. However, I want students enrolled in music classes to be able to present themselves on stage, be able to work with other students in creating and executing a performance, and to think creatively to problem-solve. Listening and critiquing is a huge component of music making, and is a skill that will greatly assist students as they work with a diverse group of people in the future.
What is your favorite tradition at Berkshire? I love Mountain Days. I enjoy working daily and finding a rhythm in the schedule, only to have to create a day that causes us to pause and think. I think days like this provide us all with a necessary break and mental health day.
How would you describe the Berkshire community? Berkshire School values politeness, friendliness, and a willingness to assist each other. None of these things come naturally, but we are dedicated to constantly work hard at helping each other be a kinder and more caring community.
