Welcome, Alumni!

Berkshire School is enormously grateful to everyone who supported the School during the 2013-2014 year. We are thankful for the generous giving and tireless volunteer efforts of our trustees, alumni, parents, grandparents, faculty, staff and friends.  This support is a testament to the strong belief in Berkshire's mission and inspires everyone who lives and learns under the Mountain.

Berkshire surpassed its goal, raising over $2,770,000 for the Annual Fund from 1,795 donors, with our Parents’ Fund reaching 73% and our Trustees at 100% participation. These dollars are critical to the School as they help fund the gap between tuition income and the cost of educating our students.  The Annual Fund impacts every aspect of the Berkshire experience, providing essential support for the daily lives of our students. We are grateful for every gift to the Annual Fund and for capital and endowment giving.  For those who were not able to give by June 30, we welcome an early gift towards this year’s Annual Fund.  To support Berkshire today, click here.

After another banner year of giving, Berkshire School would like to welcome Abbie J. von Schlegell as acting director of development. She will continue the great work that departing director, Bill Bullock and his team have been doing since his taking over the post in 2011.  As Bill moves back into the history classroom and onto the playing fields, he’ll keep in contact with the alumni and parents with whom he has forged close relationships. Berkshire is enormously grateful to Bill for his service and his heartfelt commitment to our School.

A graduate of independent schools, Abbie has been in the development field for over 40 years, as a consultant with several national firms and as a senior development officer. She heads her own advancement consulting firm, which she founded in 2007 and serves as a Certified governance trainer for BoardSource. She has held key positions at Stanford and the University of Chicago, as well as acting as Chief Development Officer for both Shakespeare Theater Company and Enterprise Community Partners.

She was the 1990 recipient of the President’s Award from AFP International, in recognition of her service to the profession. She also edited the 1993 publication, Women as Donors, Women as Philanthropists, the second issue in the New Directions for Philanthropic Fundraising series.

In short, Abbie has extensive experience in program planning, capital and endowment campaigns, major gifts programs, strategic planning, annual funds, interim management, leadership development and training. Her experience as a consultant and as an active member of the fundraising community will serve the School over the following year as she also leads an extensive search for a permanent director of development.

Abbie looks forward to hearing from you and can be reached at 413-229-1237 or at avonschlegell@berkshireschool.org.
