During the last week of spring vacation, 31 varsity lacrosse hopefuls and four coaches traveled to Clearwater, Florida, to prepare for the 2014 Girls Lacrosse season. This intrepid group arrived from all corners of the world to torrential downpour, thunder, lightning, and even tornado warnings.  However, inclement weather did not dampen their spirits as the team rallied for St. Patrick’s Day-themed paper bag skits and bowling.

As the clouds parted the following day, the girls took to the field ready to work, with triple sessions and some great scrimmages against New England powerhouses like Nobles and Middlesex. Each day, the lady Bears improved and came together as a group, rejoicing in the opportunity to practice in the sun and warmth. Lunch outings to Panera and Chipotle and evening excursions to play laser tag and sing karaoke rounded out the intensity and focus on the field.

The 2014 season promises to be exciting with a strong returning core, including tri-captains Sydney Beldock and Allie McErlean on attack and Maureen McCarthy on defense. Add to this veteran squad the influx of six talented new players – a fearless freshman in goal, some speedy underclassman in the midfield, and players with poise and finesse on attack.  One thing’s for sure – the chemistry of this group on and off the field will be fun to watch!
