The Theatre and Film program at Berkshire produces two plays and a musical on the mainstage each year. Recent performances have included Urinetown, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Blood Wedding, The Importance of Being Earnest, Anything Goes, Eurydice, and Into the Woods.
On the night of any theater performance, Allen theater is the place to be. The entire community comes out because, as a sixth former said this fall, "I don't even care what show it is, if Berkshire Theater is doing it, I know it's going to be really well done." Berkshire Theater is unique in being a totally hands-on, all-voices-heard, ensemble-first experience. The people involved value each other. Everyone's opinions, time, work process, and energy are valued. As a result, people really want to be here, regardless of the size of their role or what grade they are in. Students not only perform in the shows, but are essential in every way including props, costumes, cast blog, sets, lighting, publicity, and much more. A student last spring, after her first show here, tried to describe the mix of very high standards and values by saying, "Theater here is absolutely a varsity sport... but we sort of have the heart of a great JV team." We look forward to a great year and hope you will be a part of it!
