The Theater Department stages Oscar Wilde's classic comedy "The Importance of Being Earnest" this Thursday, November 1 - Saturday, November 3 at 7:30 PM in Allen Theater. After two years of modern fare, this production reaches back into the traditional theater canon while urging the actors to "push outside their perceived boundaries and try something that stretches them."

Social entrepreneur Alvaro Rodriguez Arregui '85 returns to Berkshire on Thursday to talk about work in Latin American venture capitalism that "serves the base of the pyramid" and visit with economics classes. Forbes Magazine has listed him on their Impact 30 list of the world's top 30 social entrepreneurs.

The Bellas/Dixon Math and Science Center, named in honor of longtime math teacher Rick Bellas and teacher and former trustee Tom Dixon, was dedicated recently. Renowned Yale lecturer and author Carl Zimmer addressed the community before the ribbon-cutting ceremony that followed.

In his provocative presentation, he urged coaches to consider the ways in which a move from a "transactional" to "transformational" coaching philosophy can impart important life lessons.

Six members of Berkshire's Quiz Bowl team competed in a top-ranked academic tournament at MIT on Saturday, tying for second in the Noether division out of a overall field of 28 teams. Students fought through nine rounds of as many as 80 questions each. Click here to learn more.

Advanced Math/Science Research Director Dr. April Burch will mentor several students in their research of bacteriophages (phages) this year, sharing her fascination with viruses of bacteria. Students have been arriving over the course of the past week for the new 2012-13 academic year. Students new to Berkshire have been engaged in a fun-filled orientation program. Preseason athletes arrive Monday and join candidates for varsity football who have been on campus for nearly a week. Returning students arrive Tuesday and classes begin on Wednesday.
