Samone DeFreese '15, a forward on the Varsity Basketball team, is named Athlete of the Week. Noted for her competitive zeal, she netted 38 points in her first two games. Click here to see a short video interview.

Though baseball season is still months away, Ryan Summers '13 has made much of the off-season, competing as a member of the Kansas City Royals Scout team and participating in the WWBA World Championship in Jupiter, FL. Next year, he will compete for the University of Louisville, which competes in the Big East and was ranked 42nd last year in the country. Click here to read more.

Renowned chamber music group, Prometheus Ensemble, will perform this Friday, January 4, at 7:30 PM in the atrium of Berkshire Hall. Music by composers Brahms and Dohnányi will complement Berkshire's own Tasia Cheng-Chia Wu's 2011 commissioned work. The event is free and open to the public.

Dr. Kohlhepp will lead a discussion about Shakespeare's Hamlet, as part of the Center for Writing and Critical Thinking Seminar Series. This presentation is well-timed for seniors who will be reading, then performing, the tragedy this month in English classes.

The Boys Hockey team, anchored by goalie Tim Ernst '13, claimed the Avon Christmas Classic Tournament championship trophy after defeating Avon, Tabor, Trinity-Pawling and Kent.

The Center for Global Initiatives sponsors a 12-day trip to Argentina in June 2013. With tours of culturally significant sites in Buenos Aires and service work with the Guarani people in Iguazu, the trip offers students a first-hand appreciation into the rich diversity and socio-political forces that shape this exciting country.

Zeiko Lewis '13 was named an All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association, and selected to the Boston Globe's All-Scholastic team. He will continue his illustrious soccer career at Boston College next year.

Join us this Friday at 7:30 PM for the Winter Concert, featuring music performed by Jazz Band, Jazz Combo, Chorus, Ursa Minor (Berkshire School's female a cappella group), Greensleeves (Berkshire School's all male a cappella group), Chamber Music Ensemble, and the Community Orchestra. The night will include many all-time favorites. The event is free and open to the public.

Two lucky students had the opportunity to meet Ambassador Ryan Crocker, a statesman whose distinguished diplomatic career has spanned four presidencies. The event was facilitated by Berkshire's new Center for Global Initiatives.

Students in the Advanced Math/Science Research program met with peers from Belmont Hill to share research projects and stories. Teachers from both schools agreed the day was a terrific opportunity to foster communication and collaboration.

Five students have submitted their research to the INTEL Science Talent Search, the nation's most prestigious science competition for high school students. Since 2010, Berkshire has had four INTEL Semifinalists. Click here to learn more about these students and their fields of study.

The ski racing teams put aside rivalry when they traveled to Salisbury School this week for a combined dry-land training session. Running, plyometrics and cross-fit cycles were a prelude to a spirited game of Swedish, a variant of dodgeball.

Mrs. Anderson's Spanish students are sharing their newfound language skills with the children at Undermountain Child Care. This intergenerational exchange has been beneficial for both "teacher" and student.

The Boys Soccer team defeated Exeter to claim the New England Class A Championship. Team co-captain Zeiko Lewis '13 scored both goals in the dramatic 2-0 win. The title caps a historic 19-0-1 season. The win is particularly fitting because the Championship cup is named in honor of legendary Berkshire coach Jack Stewart. Click here to view photos and read the game recap.

The Boys Soccer team defeated Kent in decisive 2-0 win in front of the home crowd on Saturday to advance to the New England Class A Championship. They will face Exeter on Sunday at 11 AM on a neutral field at Middlesex School. Click here to read a recap of the game.

The Boys and Girls Soccer teams both advance to the NEPSSA Semifinals on Saturday. Yesterday, the boys, ranked #1 in Class A, beat #8 Choate, and the girls, ranked #6 in Class B, beat #3 Wilbraham. The boys take on #4 Kent at home at 2 PM, and the girls face #2 Rivers away at 2 PM. Go Bears!

Ernest Yue '13 is interested in social robotics. He is working with Dr. Webb to build a a module that would allow a robot to recognize hand gestures, nonverbal cues that will lead to a more "social" robot in the future. This emerging field in science and engineering research is important for artificial intelligence.

Jeanne Morin '13 has just returned from Great Britain where she helped the U-18 French National Women's Hockey Team defeat China in the qualifiers to advance the World Tournament in December and January. Her prowess in net and in the classroom is testament to her drive for success.

The results of the Berkshire mock election are in, with Obama grabbing 61% of the overall vote. Will these results be echoed in the national election? Berkshire students and faculty will congregate in the Great Room tonight to watch the results roll in.

The Theater Department stages Oscar Wilde's classic comedy "The Importance of Being Earnest" this Thursday, November 1 - Saturday, November 3 at 7:30 PM in Allen Theater. After two years of modern fare, this production reaches back into the traditional theater canon while urging the actors to "push outside their perceived boundaries and try something that stretches them."

Dr. George Waters will lecture about "Mysticism in the Stock Market" on Friday, October 26 at 12 PM. This seminar is the second program in the new Advanced Math/Science Lecture Series. The event is open to the public.
