Over the summer, many of Berkshire's students and faculty are pursuing interests that they now can give their full focus. Advanced Geometry students traveled to Mass MoCA recently to tour the Sol Lewitt exhibit. Renowned for separating concept from execution of his large-scale installations, Lewitt's instructions described different geometric forms to be interpreted and drawn by draftsmen. Top math students continue to rack up the accolades in recent competitions. Ji Won Ryoo '14 finished second in a field of 31,000 participants, and three students finished in the top 2% on the American Mathematics Exam and qualified for the Invitational. Finally, the math team is again the top boarding school with under 500 students in New England. Click here to learn more.

Sam Cabot '13, lead author of an astrophysics research paper, was recently notified that his work has been accepted for publication by the prestigious Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society. His research relates to understanding the physical processes of the hot interstellar medium (ISM). Click here to learn more.

Five students have submitted their research to the INTEL Science Talent Search, the nation's most prestigious science competition for high school students. Since 2010, Berkshire has had four INTEL Semifinalists. Click here to learn more about these students and their fields of study.

Ernest Yue '13 is interested in social robotics. He is working with Dr. Webb to build a a module that would allow a robot to recognize hand gestures, nonverbal cues that will lead to a more "social" robot in the future. This emerging field in science and engineering research is important for artificial intelligence.

Dr. George Waters will lecture about "Mysticism in the Stock Market" on Friday, October 26 at 12 PM. This seminar is the second program in the new Advanced Math/Science Lecture Series. The event is open to the public.

Math teacher Jasper Turner will share simple algorithms for solving the complex Rubik's Cube in the second program of the Center for Writing and Critical Thinking (CWCT) Lecture Series. The program is this Friday at 7:30 PM in the Bellas/Dixon Lecture Hall.
