Former Berkshire soccer standout Zeiko Lewis '13 was drafted by the New York Red Bulls in the MLS SuperDraft, held Jan. 13 in Los Angeles.
The team used the 17th pick to select Lewis, a four-year starter at Boston College. This past fall, the Bermuda native led the Eagles in scoring (7 goals, 5 assists) and helped guide the team to the second round of the men's NCAA Tournament.
As a senior at Berkshire in 2012, Lewis captained the Bears team that won the first of three consecutive New England Preparatory School Athletic Council Class A championships.
After being drafted by the Red Bulls, Lewis said he looked forward to playing against former Berkshire teammate and current NYC FC midfielder Jack Harrison '15, last year's top pick in the MLS SuperDraft.
"Now I just have to beat him," Lewis said. "We can be brothers off the field but on the field, if I have to tackle you I'm going to tackle you."
Prior to the draft, Lewis was one of four college seniors to sign a contract with MLS. The league's preseason gets underway later this month.
