17 Students Earn Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

17 Berkshire students have earned regional Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.

The awards, which have been handed out since 1923, are given to students in grades 7-12 in several categories after evaluation by professional artists, according to Art Department Chair Paul Banevicius.

"Over the years, the judges have responded enthusiastically to the work that Berkshire's students do. This year, many of our winners come from the Photography and Digital Art programs. In past years, Ceramics and Painting have gotten a lot of attention. It's always fun—and a bit of a mystery—to see which works get honored."

Berkshire has four Gold Key winners, including sixth formers Dalia Banevicius '17, an AP student in Digital Art who plans to study graphic design in college, and Simran Chatani '17, a three-year photography student. Both students also earned a Silver Key award as well.

Gigi Brown '20 and Henry Kessler '19 also won Gold Key awards for their work. Mikayla McEwan '18 earned Berkshire's first ever Silver Key Award in the writing category for her personal essay.
