WBSL 91.7 FM, Berkshire School’s 232-watt student-run radio station, is now transmitting the signal of National Public Radio affiliate WHDD in nearby Sharon, Conn., giving WBSL 24-hour airtime. Berkshire School will receive underwriting time on WHDD at no cost.
Under an agreement with Robin Hood Radio, which operates WHDD 91.9 FM and 1020 AM, WHDD will share WBSL’s frequency when WBSL is off the air. When Berkshire School is in session, WBSL broadcasts weekday mornings from 7 to 8 and Sunday through Friday evenings from 7 to 11. WBSL will also stream WHDD’s programming in addition to its own via the student life section of Berkshire School’s Web site, berkshireschool.org.
According to Robin Hood Radio co-founder Marshall Miles, while WHDD provides familiar NPR shows such as All Things Considered, Car Talk and BBC World News, the station also emphasizes local coverage. Miles said that WHDD would now provide coverage of issues affecting South County residents as well as news from the Southern Berkshire and Berkshire Hills Regional School Districts.
