The Language Department
Languages-M. Joissant

The Language Department offers a multi-faceted perspective of the world through the study of Chinese, French, Latin, and Spanish. Each language emphasizes the four core language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students use language for self-expression, communication, and to gain insight into the culture of the people whose language they are studying.

We provide a nurturing environment conducive to learning, and we encourage immersion in the language. Teachers use video lessons to develop an understanding of the spoken language and bring its cultural content into the classroom. Students read for content, meaning, and discussion. Exercises in grammar, structure, and free composition provide critical writing experience.

We believe an important aspect of all our entry level language courses is the preparation for lifelong language learning. Offering students the tools and piquing their curiosity encourages them to examine the wider world. We firmly believe that our students will need the ability to communicate succinctly and creatively in more than one language to be leaders in our increasingly global culture.

Requirements: Completion through the third level of a foreign language is required for graduation.
