Borts '10: Atlético Clube de Portugal
Andrew Borts '10 spent a month of his summer training with Portugal's Atlético Clube de Portugal, which proved in his words to be to be "a life-changing experience" for the junior who now attends Sacred Heart University.
The journey to Portugal for Borts was not only about an unbelievable soccer experience but also about connecting with his roots and relatives who still reside in Portugal. When asked about the experience of training with a professional club for a month, Borts replied, "The most important thing I realized during this time was just how much time and effort you have to put in, in order to succeed as a professional soccer player. I would love to some day return to Portugal as a paid professional."
There is no doubt Borts is in a better place now as he enters his junior season at Sacred Heart. Coming off a Northeast Conference regular season championship in 2011, Borts and his teammates hope to win the conference again and earn a bid to the NCAA Tournament by winning the NEC Championship this fall.
