With a great opening to the school year behind us, Berkshire’s students and faculty have quickly found a welcome rhythm to the fall, balancing busy and productive days in the classrooms with crisp afternoons spent between our playing fields, stages, and trails. Friendships between students have been forged and renewed, and there is a well-earned pride in the distinctive strength of our community this year. Humanitarian Visits for All School Read Deo Niyizonkiza, the subject of the New York Times Bestseller Strength In What Remains by Tracy Kidder, shared his heroic journey from refugee of the war-torn African country of Burundi to humanitarian during Berkshire's inaugural All School Read on Sept. 19-20. "Life doesn’t end with high school, college, or whatever place you find yourself in." -JW Chris Herren Shares Struggles With Students Former Celtics player, Chris Herren, spoke to Berkshire students during the All School Meeting on September 23. Herren shared the powerful story of his turbulent athletic career, his battle with addiction and his journey to sobriety. The talk was part of Berkshire's Health and Wellness program. It takes three times the water to make the bottle as it does to fill it. source: waterproject.org Recently at Berkshire, it has been a goal to cut down on the waste of plastic water bottles. When new students arrive at school, they receive a Berkshire reusable water bottle. Berkshire Bookstore stopped selling bottled water and put in water refilling stations. These stations allow people to easily reuse their Berkshire water bottles and reduce the waste of disposable ones.
