Board of Trustees
September 30, 2017
To the Berkshire School Community,
On behalf of Berkshire’s Board of Trustees, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Gilman C. “Chip” Perkins ’73, P ’14,’14, as our next Chair of the Board of Trustees, effective September 30, 2017. An alumnus and proud parent of Lucia and Sam Perkins, both of the Class of 2014, Chip is well-poised to lead Berkshire as it continues to implement the goals laid out in its 2016 Strategic Plan.
Chip joined the Board of Trustees in 2003 and currently serves on the Nominating and Governance, Endowment, and Finance Committees. As Co-Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee, Chip led a group of fellow trustees, alumni, parents, students, faculty, and staff, as they collectively developed a roadmap to guide Berkshire into its next decade and beyond. I have experienced firsthand the commitment Chip has shown to the Berkshire community, and as a long-standing board colleague of his, I am confident in his leadership and devotion to the School. Chip responded to his appointment by sharing, “I am honored to follow in Alice’s footsteps and continue the great work she and the board have done together. Berkshire has been in my blood since I arrived on campus in 1969, and even more so since I began my service to the School 30 years ago. Great progress has been made over the last two decades with even more yet to come.”
Founder and Managing Member of Perkins Fund Marketing (PFM), which he started in 1997, Chip is responsible for the overall operation of the firm, new business development, and management of the sales force. Prior to PFM, Chip served as a marketing and sales representative for various alternative investment products at Asset Management Services.
After earning a BS in economics from St. Lawrence University in 1977, Chip began his career in the technology arena and was involved in two start-up businesses that eventually led to the founding of Platinum Software, where he was a director and executive vice president of sales & marketing. In 1989, after a bid from IBM to market Platinum, Chip joined IBM as Manager of Software Marketing for the United States. In 1992, Platinum Software went public and Chip began investing in hedge funds. A founding member of 3PM (Third Party Marketers Association) and the Connecticut Hedge Fund Association, Chip has participated in numerous domestic and international hedge fund and alternative investment conferences as a panelist, chairperson, and moderator.
A Rochester, New York native, Chip lives in Fairfield, Connecticut. He enjoys golf, tennis, skiing, and spending time with his children and traveling with them and his girlfriend Jayne Millard.
Please join me in congratulating Chip as we look forward to his leadership guiding us forward.
